WPOC Laurel Ridge XC Ski Orienteering Race

  • 01/21/2024
  • 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • Laurel Ridge State Park XC Ski Area (Lodge)

To all orienteers and potential orienteers:

I don't know what conditions are like where you are; but here we have snow; and that prompted me to tell you about this year's attempt to have a ski orienteering event.  WPOC is planning to have ski orienteering at Laurel Ridge Ski Area on Jan 21.  There will be three courses:  Short (1.7 km for beginners), Medium (3 km for novice or intermediate) and Long (6.0 km for advanced ski orienteers).  Check-in and start will be from 10 am to 1 pm.  The map fee for non-members is $6 (more if you are not preregistered); trail fees and equipment rental are extra.  If you have never tried ski orienteering, Naomi Jarvis has offered to provide a free lesson at the event.  The lesson will be at 11 am; but if you want to take advantage of this offer, you must sign up for the lesson.  You can do this by going to  https://www.paccsa.org/paccsa-ski-lessons  Note:  preregistering for the ski orienteering and signing up for the ski lesson are separate actions.  All courses must be done on cross-country skis; not on foot and not wearing snowshoes.

If there is no snow on January 21; the event will be postponed to February 11.  You can check the snow conditions at http://www.paccsa.org/webcams   If we have to postpone, your preregistration will be carried over for February.

Directions are available http://www.wpoc.org/laurelridgeskiflyer.php?pick=0 You can also preregister through the directions page.  Or if you prefer, go to www.wpoc.org/preregistration.php  Please Preregister.  Preregistration deadline is January 18.

Don't forget, if you are bringing a minor who is not your son or daughter, you need to bring a waiver signed by the minor's parent (obtainable at http://www.wpoc.org/waivers.htm )
