International Expedition to beautiful Peru, South America.
This is a three-week trip with two, two-week, overlapping contingents:
1) first week in Cusco and second week in Huaraz, includes Rainbow Mountain, via ferrata to an overnight stay in SkyLodge (pods suspended on a cliff), Machu Picchu, and a trek up Santa Cruz valley (coinciding with contingent 2)
2) two weeks mountaineering expedition to climb Alpamayo, and potentially nearby Quitaraju
Those wishing to do all three weeks can do so.
This is a self-supported and planned trip. Ron has prior experience and resources. Mountains and treks are accessible to ALL - just need to be able to hike and camp. Machu Picchu as well.
Cost estimate: $1,500 (includes air travel)
Meetings started in December 2022 and continue every month. Contact Ron Edwards ron@ronedwards.com to be included.
▪Andes - Cordillera Blanca: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordillera_Blanca
▪Peru’s Cordillera Blanca is one of the most concentrated collections of big peaks in the Western Hemisphere, with 33 (another source: >70) summits topping 5,400 meters (18,000 feet), including Huascarán (22,204'), Peru’s highest peak.
▪May through September are optimal times to climb Alpamayo. July is the best month in terms of snow coverage and weather stability. Despite July being their winter, the fact that they are so close to the equator makes their winters produce less moisture.
▪Town of Huaraz (“base camp”): 10,000 ft elevation
▪Mountains passes: 13,000-15,000 ft
▪Mountain summits: 17,000-20,000 ft
