Rock Climbing School

General Information

The ECP Rock Climbing School is held once every year in the spring, mid-April through mid-May.  It is for the beginner climber and focuses on equipment, development of basic skills, and rigging for “top roping”-style climbing.  No prior experience or equipment is necessary.

• Teaching takes place through both classroom and outdoor sessions (schedule below)
• You must be a member of the ECP to participate (the annual club membership cost is $20 – Individual)
• You must be at least 18 years of age
• School cost is $100 - this covers your training manual, some basic equipment that is yours to keep and the use of club equipment.

Applying to Rock Climbing School

1. First, check the list of class dates below to make sure you can attend every session. There are no make-up sessions.
2. Mail your completed 2009 Application form with a check for $100 made payable to the EXPLORERS CLUB OF PITTSBURGH to 1545 Butler Road, Springdale PA 15144 before the application deadline, which is Thursday March 9, 2009.

Save a Stamp: The March 9 application deadline is also the date of the March ECP General Meeting (which starts 7:30 PM in Botany Hall, Phipps Conservatory). Completed applications with checks will be accepted at the meeting.

Class size is limited, with preference given to participatory Explorers Club members who turn in applications on or before the deadline of March 9, 2009.  After the class is filled, uncashed checks are mailed to waitlisted applicants.

2009 Schedule

Classes start at 7:30 pm and are approximately 2 hours in length.
Outings start at 9am with carpools departing from Monroeville 7:30-8am.
