Ski Trails and Old Timer's Tales in Idaho and Montana

"Ski Trails and Old Timers' Tales is the most complete reference to cross-country and backcountry skiing in Idaho. This is no ordinary guidebook: ""It has a well honed sense of place, a nice appreciation for local folklore and a commitment to sport that it is integrated with the environment,"" said the Journal of Appropriate Technology. Three chapters, filled with old historical photos, trace the history of skiing in Idaho. It is also a guidebook of the best places to go on ski tours and backcountry ski trips in Idaho, Montana and Western Wyoming, including trails in Yellowstone and the Tetons. Cross Country Skier Magazine called it ""the standard by which other guide books are judged."" It is presently out of print, but the Great Rift Press will be bringing out a new version. When it's finished, I'll notify Amazon.com.

Ski Trails and Old-timers' Tales has been completely revised and renamed Winter Tales and Trails: Skiing, Snowshoeing and Snowboarding in Idaho, the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park. The 352 page book includes 4 chapters on ski history, a collection of stories on the western winter, hundreds of cross-country ski trails, lots of information on backcountry skiing and snowboarding routes and complete listings of Idaho's Alpine Ski Areas. The book will be available from Amazon.com in mid October of 1997"
